...to proactively accelerate the spiritual growth of Grace Bible Church for the purpose of knowing God more intimately and becoming more effective servants of God in the world...
Program Overview
The Bible Training Institute of Grace Bible Church of Bakersfield (BTI) endeavors to disciple men and women at an accelerated rate compared to how they might grow spiritually if only attending church and a traditional Bible study. BTI covers three broad areas: Systematic Theology, Bible Survey, and Applied Theology.
BTI takes 34 sessions to complete - seven in the fall, seven in the spring, and three in the summer, for two years. This means only 34 out of 104 sessions are required for those two years. A student can start BTI during any semester and simply continue the cycle until all 6 semesters are completed.
Systematic Theology
Introduction to Theology, Bibliology, Theology Proper, Christology, Pneumatology, Anthropology, Angelology, Hamartiology, Soteriology, Ecclesiology, Eschatology, Major Biblical Covenants, Kingdom of God.
Bible Survey
A survey of all 66 books of the Bible
Applied Theology
Prayer, Growing in the Word, Marriage, Evangelism, Spiritual Leadership (men), Bible Study Methods (men), Bible Lesson Presentation (men), Biblical Counseling, Titus 2 Qualities of a Godly Woman (women)
Student Status
Students are encouraged to participate in BTI as an “enrollee” but can also do so as an “auditor”. An enrollee commits to do all reading, assignments, and attends every (or close to every) session. The enrollee will be considered as having completed the program after all semesters are finished. An auditor attends and does all that he or she can but without the intent of being held accountable for completed reading and assignments and will not receive a completion certificate, but will grow in the faith based on whatever effort is put forth.
List of Books
A book list for all semesters can be found on our Recommended Reading section of our website.
Accountability & Assignments
An attendance and assignment sheet will be passed around each meeting to track your progress. Getting behind on the reading is not recommended since it will be difficult to catch up. Reading assignments (from the Bible and books we are going through) will be given and essays, including a final project, will be due on the days listed in the semester syllabus.
