The book of Exodus is centered on the theme of God’s creation of His chosen nation, Israel. He will rescue them from bondage, thus having rights over them to form them into a nation to receive His love, blessing, and commission. Exodus fits into the overall theme of the Pentateuch in that God’s kingdom plan will be carried out first through his chosen people. They will be the bearers of the truth of God’s salvation and ultimately the means by which the promised Savior of Genesis 3:15 is brought into the world. Exodus, far from being merely a children’s Bible story, is a major part of God’s sovereign plan to redeem the world for His glory.
